Tune-up
: A tune-up consists of
cleaning your floppy, CD, and tape drives, cooling fans, system
and add-in boards, memory chips, processor, ect.
( the
industry and myself recommend this be done twice a year minimum )
I will also check for
any other conditions that may cause overheating and correct, also check
file system and disk surface for errors, defragment your hard drives,
check and optimize your swap file, I
can also
optimize your dial up connection
for maximum speed and
dependability,
update your system
bios (
flash
bios only ) , and
flash your modem and CD/DVD drives with the latest firmware. (
if upgradeable )
Data
Back-up : I can't say
enough about how important it is to back up your data on a routine
basis, anyone who has ever had a disk crash or a screwy software
program eat their data, not to mention virus's or even accidental deletion
of something important to you can attest to this.
( I
recommend you do a full back up before you have any service
performed on your P.C. )
If you don't have a
large capacity back up device such as a tape drive or zip drive I
can duplicate the entire contents of your hard drive and copy it to CD or
span large drives across several CD's.
Upgrades
: I will evaluate your
older system and make recommendations for bringing your old
faithful up to date for a modest evaluation fee which would be waived if
you should decide to have me do the upgrades.
If you would decide to
purchase a new P.C. rather than upgrade, I may be interested in
buying your older model to help offset the purchase even further, Now you
can't beat a deal like that ! (
Please
keep in mind that with the low cost of P.C.'s today you may want to
consider a new one )
Repairs
: Whether it is just
plain broke, or not working properly there is a good chance I can repair
it, Common problems with older P.C.'s include faulty power supplies, cold
solder joints on the mother board and cards that have came unseated just
to name a few, in some rare
cases I have seen a cracked mother board, sometimes these can also be repaired.
Custom Built Systems : We build custom systems for folks who require more than "off the shelf" assembly line machines. Our machines are built with all the top quality components, intricate attention to "inside the box" detail. with an emphasis on cooling and air flow for long-life reliability. Built to your specifications - Built to LAST!!
Although there are
some situations where performance is entirely driven by CPU power, in general it is better to spend your money on memory instead of a faster processor.
To build a better PC, you need to know how to recognize performance bottlenecks and how to design them
out of the system.
Think of your morning commute. you probably hit traffic on your way in (and out) in about the same place every day. Sports cars and
Trucks both get stuck in the same jam at the same time so it isn't how fast your car is - it's a combination of the road your on and how all the
other folks are driving that causes stop and go traffic patterns.
Inside your computer is the electronic equivalent to the highway. One basic component, and potential bottle neck is the
system BUS or I/O subsystem which is responsible for moving data back and forth. Depending on the application,
(client/server applications, database, graphics, etc.) a bottle neck will develop and all your data will back up waiting to get through. On the highway, traffic conditions
rarely change, but your PC's bottlenecks change as your computing processes change.
You can upgrade your CPU, but changing it won't help much if your bottleneck is caused by a different component. A sports car and a
Truck could get caught in the same traffic jam at the same time showing that it isn't just a question of horse power but rather a combination of
things. Most folks will often select a faster CPU thinking that faster is better without first considering where their bottlenecks might be.
It used to be there was a difference between the various
brand names, but now that most all of them use Intel motherboards it's hard to
see a difference other than appearance. And some figure they are safe if they buy a well known brand name from a
Electronics Store, or one of those Super Warehouse Outlets. That certainly will
address some issues, but buying from a well known manufacturer will be of little help if your sales
person didn't take the time to help you determine your needs. For instance,
Will your computer run all your applications satisfactorily, and will you be happy if your machine meets the minimum recommended configuration? Let
us help you put your dream system together ..... Hope to see you soon !
